Here are a selection of my favorite books that inspired me, motivated me, made me a better guitar player, insured many incredibly enjoyable hours of practice and also changed my life forever. Just click the book if you want to buy a copy.
The Tablature guitar book from the album “In step” by legendary blues guitar player Stevie Ray Vaughan was a great learning process, because the songs are so much fun to play. The songs contains awesome blues rhythm guitar and amazing blues licks. So much joy and so many lessons learned.
“The 80/20 Way of Living” by Richard Koch is also a brilliant book to get the most out of life with the least effort. Work less, worry less, succeed more and enjoy more is the motto. This book is not about time management but time revolution.
“Practicing” by Glenn Kurtz “A Musician’s Return to Music” In a remarkable memoir written with insight and humor, Glenn Kurtz takes you from his first lessons at the age of eight to his acceptance at the elite New England Conservatory of Music. After graduation, he attempts a solo career in Vienna but soon realizes that he has neither the ego nor the talent required to succeed and gives up the instrument, and his dream, entirely. But not forever: Returning to the guitar, Kurtz weaves into the narrative the rich experience of a single practice session. “Practicing” takes you on a revelatory, inspiring journey: a love affair with music.
“Surfing with the Alien” by Joe Satriani was also fun, fun, fun! If you’re into shredding, awesome soloing and beautiful melody this is a great guitar tablature book. Songs like “Surfing with the Alien”, “Always with you, always with me” and “Satch Boogie” are a blast and really get your chops going.
“Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life” by Wayne Dyer is his interpretation of the masterpiece “Tao Te Ching” by Lao Tzu (some call it the ‘wisest book ever written’) Tao Te Ching can be difficult to read, so Wayne Dyer’s version of the book is a great alternative. The book beautifully explains the Tao Te Ching and how to apply it to everyday life. The Tao Te Ching changed my way of thinking and certainly changed my life.
