Maybe a better solution would be a dual core desktop PC for under $500, install Ubuntu Studio, and stick in an M-Audio (now Avid) Delta 1010LT sound card. You really don't need a super fast PC for audio recording, we've been using PCs to record CDs for at least a decade now. Otherwise, good article.
